Baskets of Care

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Knitters & Crocheters:

Each Baskets of Care will have a Healing Shawl.  Each knitted or crocheted by a volunteer and gifted to a newly diagnosed breast cancer patient. The healing shawl is one of the “signature pieces” of this comfort care bag.

Yarn is “Homespun by Lions”(3 Skeins are required). Size 13 Needles. Pattern is easy for the experienced knitter and for the new knitter this is a great way to learn.  It is a basic pattern.  Cast on 63 Stitches and K3 P3.   Length is 60 inches plus fringe. Any color. Instructions for this pattern are available; however, we will be happy to have you knit a healing shawl with a pattern of your choosing.  We would like ALL Shawls Fringed. Yarn can be provided to you or your donation of the yarn would be deeply appreciated. Crocheted shawls also can be made and there are instructions available.

Here is a list of organizations currently knitting for Baskets of Care;

Christ the King
Head Huggers
Holland Free Methodist Church (Holland, Ohio) “Warm Heart” Knitters
United Church of Christ (Sylvania)
Trinity United Methodist Church (Swanton)
“Crochet Now” (Perrysburg)
Curves of Sylvania
Sylvania Community Senior Center

  • Sewers:

Another Comfort Care item is a Heart Shaped Padded Pillow. It has be designed and developed to be worn in the car to protect the breast.  It is attached with a Velcro Strap that fastens around the seat belt. Instruction and pattern will be provided. Designer Fabric, Flannel, Batting, Velcro and Baskets of Care Strap are the materials needed.  We will provide the Custom Straps. The materials to sew the pillows can be provided however, donation of these items would be deeply appreciated.  If you like to sew and looking for a wonderful project, this will be for you.

  • Breast Cancer Survivors Volunteers:

Won’t you be a part of a group of volunteers who will give hands-on support to a newly diagnosed patient?

  • Supply-line Volunteers

We need individuals who can be a “supply-line volunteer”. This volunteer will be the contact person for a Doctor’s office. This volunteer will take the order for the Baskets of Care Bag, pick up the bags from the distribution center and deliver the quantity of bags needed to that office.  This could be a once or twice a month commitment.

Mission Statement:
