Lucas County Children Services

Volunteer Opportunities:

Foster Parents:
Lucas County Children Services is seeking foster parents to care for abused and neglected children.

By becoming a foster parent, you can help children who are going through a difficult time in their lives by providing the security and consistency they need. You could be the right person to make a difference for a child, whether it’s by being an expert at soothing fussy babies, keeping a sibling group together, or by helping a teen reach adulthood.

Becoming a foster parent is easier than you think. We provide you with the state-mandated 36 hours of pre-service training at no cost. You can own or rent your home, apartment or manufactured home, as long as you have at two or more bedrooms (one for you and other(s) for the child(ren), and your home can pass a basic safety check, including smoke detectors.

Foster parents can be married, single or partnered, and all adults in the home will need to pass background checks and provide references. Finally, you will need to show that you have sufficient income to meet your own needs. When you welcome children into your home, you will receive a stipend to help cover the costs, and the children will have medical and dental coverage. We’ll also provide clothing vouchers a few times a year.

LCCS offers the FREE  pre-service training program several times during the year. A full schedule is available at www.lucaskids.net.  The classes take place at the LCCS offices at 705 Adams Street in downtown Toledo. To register for classes, or for more information, visit the LCCS website or call the Foster Care & Adoption Recruiter at 419-213-3336.

Mission Statement:
